WELCOMING THE STRANGER, AN APC MISSION PARTNER,
RECEIVES A 2019 ATLANTIC AND ALLSTATE RENEWAL AWARD
At a summit in New York City on April 3, 2019, Welcoming the Stranger (WTS) was awarded one of five awards made to non-profits from across the county as part of a national search to honor community-based organizations for their innovative, grassroots approach to driving change and bringing progress to the country.
One of the press reports shared that “The five winning groups were selected from 9,300 nominations and have collectively affected tens of thousands of lives by addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing America today: from housing and prenatal care for parenting and pregnant teens living in poverty; to preparing immigrants and refugees for life in a new country; to lifting up a city through beautification and care of buildings. Several of the organizations are focused on empowering women and families, and four of the winning non-profits are led by women. Each of the five winners will receive $40,000 over two years to support their work.”
Since Sturgis Poorman founded WTS 20 years ago, APC has been supportive through prayers, yearly financial support through the APC mission budget and individuals, and by members participating in the annual International dinners. Meg Eubank is now ably leading WTS forward and expanding programs and getting the WTS name broadcast both locally and further afield.
Thank you to all at APC who cast votes online for WTS in the Renewal Award contest – your votes made a difference!
