Mission Awareness and Outreach
The Ardmore Presbyterian Church congregation distributes benevolence funds to our mission partners, develops and grows awareness of the ministries which we support, and enables and promotes opportunities for members to participate in various mission-related activities. Recognizing that we are all subject to the Great Commission, we seek to facilitate proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus through both word and deed in our community, in our nation and throughout the entire world.
APC participated in three denominational wide offerings: One Great Hour of Sharing which supports Presbyterian Disaster Assistance; the Peacemaking Offering; and the Christmas Joy Offering which provides for retired pastors living on fixed incomes as well as students at racial/ethnic colleges and universities sponsored by PCUSA.
In July, many volunteers from the congregation were actively involved in hosting our visitors from our partner church in Puerto Rico. From host families providing lodging to coordinating transportation, from meal preparation to joining our visitors in activities with local mission partners – the APC family demonstrated in so many ways the sharing of God’s love!
APC continues our activities at Christmas to provide congregation members with opportunities to support those in need and to raise awareness. The Mitten Tree is decorated with hand-made and store-bought mittens, gloves, hats and scarves that were donated to the Maternity Care Coalition for distribution to children and families in need. The annual Alternative Gift Fair on Advent Family Night and several Sundays after worship make Fair Trade items were available for purchase. Christmas cards can purchased to facilitate donations which support Heifer International and items from The Welcome Church, a church without walls for people experiencing homelessness.
Arun and Shobha Massey visited APC in October and met with the Committee to provide an update on their Caring Hands Ministry and to thank APC for its continued generous support. Congregational members supported the Build-It-Bus and the Interfaith Hospitality Network by volunteering their time and talents. APC Youth collected funds for the Souper Bowl of Caring. The CROP Walk was supported by the congregation and by Committee members who walked as well as members who sponsored our walkers. APC continues involvement with Interfaith Hospitality Network (INH).
The Mission of the (Y)Ardfarmers is to honor God through the cultivation of His natural resources; to reveal the beauty and bounty of God’s creation to our surrounding community; to provide a place for fellowship and service for members and friends of Ardmore Presbyterian Church; and to show the love of God by freely sharing the food from our garden with those in need. The (Y)Ardfarmers will pursue their Mission by maintenance of a vegetable and herb garden, most of whose harvest will go to local churches or agencies serving people in need.
The bulk of the gardens’ harvest also went to our sister church in West Philadelphia, Calvin Presbyterian Church. Along with Calvin and Overbrook Presbyterian Churches, A.P.C. is part of a Presbytery-supported mission called the Matthew 25:35 Project, which provides lunch, used clothing, and food staples once a week to residents of the Carroll Park neighborhood around Calvin Church.
