CROP Walk, Oct. 15, 2017

One Step Ahead of the Storm”

“You survived the storm by the skin of your teeth, but you have no home to go back to. Hurricane after hurricane has whipped through. Your tight knit community is gone. What the wind didn’t destroy, the floods did. Your car is destroyed. There’s no safe water to drink, and no power. You have to evacuate again, this time on foot. The neighbors have gathered together and want to stay together and look out for one another. There is some issue with that. The sheriff in the next county has promised to arrest anyone with outstanding warrants. You’ve all been TOLD that immigration status wouldn’t be checked, but the undocumented members of the group are too afraid to go to a shelter in that county. You have to find a shelter, and it has to be one that feels safe for all.

Join us on October 15th at the Wawa Nature Preserve for a different kind of CROP WALK. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. and the walk begins at 2:00 p.m.. Each person will choose an identity out of a basket, citizen or undocumented. Only you will know which you are.”
